We, as the nation, commemorate the 103rd anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory with great proud and excitement and once again remember each and every hero of it with respect and gratitude. The Çanakkale Victory is a glorious victory which brought to heel the most advanced militaries of the era and led to the inscription in history of the saying, “Çanakkale is impassable.”Çanakkale, as Ghazi Mustafa Kemal, the founder of our Republic, put it, is the name of the victory which “saved our today, enabled the past to reclaim its heroism and grandeur, and made these lands an eternal home to us.”The unprecedented victory, which was achieved in Çanakkale thanks to our heroic soldiers’ faith and perseverance and our nation’s great sacrifices, also provided the inspiration that later on paved the way for victory in the War of Independence. Our biggest source of power in the fight for survival which we, as the state, are now waging against terrorist organizations and the powers behind them is again our nation’s faith and its love for homeland and independence, as was the case one century ago. Both the heroic acts that were displayed against the treacherous FETO gang on the night of July 15 and the fact that our entire nation got mobilized during Afrin operation have once again shown how alive and strong the spirit of Çanakkale is on these lands.Just as Turkey subdued the great powers of the world in Çanakkale 103 years ago, it, today as well, has the power to foil the plots sought to be implemented by means of terrorist organizations. The success achieved in a short span of time in Operation Olive Branch has proved to all, friends and foes alike, the power of our nation as well as its resolve to protect its independence and future. With these thoughts, I commemorate the 103rd anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory and remember with respect and gratitude all our martyrs, first and foremost Ghazi Mustafa Kemal, who entrusted these lands to us, on the occasion of March 18th Martyrs’ Day.May they rest in peace.
